From a young age, I’ve been obsessed with dogs – any breed, any size, any colour. I couldn’t walk past a dog without touching it, I still can’t.

I didn’t have a dog of my own growing up, but I was surrounded by dogs through friends and family and have fond memories of Toddy the Golden Retriever, Poppy the Spaniel & Zara the German Shepherd to name a few.

Going into adult life, my chosen career didn’t allow me the time to care for a dog but I did enjoy when Louie the Pug or Lewis the Golden Retriever came for a sleepover or an extended holiday.

In 2014 I decided to leave my career in hotels and moved into a role that allowed me to work from home and the perfect opportunity to finally get the dog that I longed for.

My beautiful bulldog, Alfie, came home in July 2014 and was my absolute world. He was with me through thick and thin and adapted with ease when children came along. I was so so lucky to have my beloved Alfie as part of my family from the tender age of 9 weeks to the grand old age of 9 years and 9 months. Alfie was an amazing dog, gentle, wise and full of love, our house has not been the same since he departed.

One thing that I always struggled with as a dog owner was finding someone that I could trust to care for Alfie when I was away from home. I travelled far and wide, sometimes a 6 hour round trip, so that Alfie was cared for by the best.

As a family, we don’t think we’ll be ready for another dog of our own for quite sometime, but we crave the presence of dogs in our home. We feel that the perfect compromise would be to offer a home from home holiday care service for dogs that ensures that each and every guest is showered with affection and treated as one of our own.

Barkcation Babo was founded in memory of our precious Alfie who we also affectionately called Babo.

My Alfie, my baby, my soulmate, my world.
